AREAS AFFECTED: Jackson County Below 9000 Feet; South and Southeast Grand/West Central and Southwest Boulder/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Summit/North and West Park Counties Above 9000 Feet; Grand and Summit Counties Below 9000 Feet; Central and Southeast Park County; Larimer and Boulder Counties Between 6000 and 9000 Feet; Jefferson and West Douglas Counties Above 6000 Feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park Counties Below 9000 Feet; West Jackson and West Grand Counties Above 9000 Feet; South and East Jackson/Larimer/North and Northeast Grand/Northwest Boulder Counties Above 9000 Feet

DESCRIPTION: The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms, which is in effect from noon to 10 PM MDT Thursday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217 and 218. * TIMING...From noon to 10 PM MDT Thursday. * WINDS...Southwest 5 to 15 mph, but gusts to 40 mph in/near any showers and thunderstorms. * IMPACTS...Conditions will be favorable for new wildfire starts due to lightning from thunderstorms producing little rainfall. * Thunderstorms...Dry thunderstorms (storms with lightning but little rainfall) will be possible Thursday afternoon and evening.

INSTRUCTION: A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of dry thunderstorms, strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km) and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as "cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.

Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud formations generally pass rapidly.
