Flood Advisory issued August 12 at 6:26PM EDT until August 12 at 9:30PM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI

AREAS AFFECTED: Bay, MI; Midland, MI

DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Michigan, including the following counties, Bay and Midland. * WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 620 PM EDT, Local law enforcement reported numerous flooded roads across the city of Midland from heavy rain due to thunderstorms. The area of heavy rainfall stretches east and northeast into central Bay County. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain has fallen and will cause urban and small stream flooding. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Midland, Linwood, Willard, Crump and Averill. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Graupel is a form of precipitation that is created by atmospheric conditions which cause supercooled water droplets to contact snow crystals and freeze to their surface.

Sometimes known as soft hail or snow pellets, graupel is delicate and easily destroyed by touch. Whereas hail usually falls during severe weather, graupel doesn't require such conditions to form, and can form in mild precipitation similar to situations which produce snowfall.

Hole Punch Clouds Next Topic: Mammatus Clouds

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.

When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific to any geographic area.

Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole, skypunch, and cloud hole.
